When Tom received his pancreas transplant, it failed right away with bad complications keeping him in the hospital for several months. After that, he was not able to have another pancreas transplantation. 

 

After recovery, he signed for islet transplantation with us. He was off insulin for a year, then received as second islet infusion, which kept him off insulin for 2 yers and a half and now  he is awaiting for his third islet infusion taking low dose of insulin. Some remaining  islets are still working and protecting him form severe lows and highs as well as hypoglycemic unawereness.
