Dear Patient, 

I am writing to let you know about an opportunity to participate in a research study being conducted by myself, Dr. Piotr Witkowski at the University of Chicago.

The purpose of this study is to assess islet cell transplantation is safe and effective in patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus who had previously had a kidney transplant. 

Islet transplantation is a minimally invasive procedure which allows islet cells to be infused into patient liver and help patients to manage their blood glucose control and possibly stop using insulin injections. 

You may be eligible for this study if:

  • you are between the ages of 18-65,

  • has type 1 diabetes 

  • you had a kidney transplant 

  • you have blood type A or AB

  • you have ​BMI 18-30

It is your decision, and your participation is voluntary.

Whether you show interest, and participate in the study or not, it will have no effect on your treatment with your doctors.
